Payless renters be warned!\r
My wife reserved a standard rental car with Payless, when she arrived it was no longer available. The only option available after that was for her to pay an additional $70 upgrade fee for an SUV. She said she didn't want an SUV, they said they would clear everything up at the lot and hustled her aboard a shuttle and drove her to a lot 5 miles away. When she got to the shuttle lot, the SUV was the only option available and the shuttle had left. \r
The SUV they gave her had a brake issue where they made loud grinding noises and it did not handle well on the freeway. Needless to say she was not comfortable driving this vehicle. Since it was the holiday and there was no other option available she used the truck for her trip.\r
We live on the north end of the cities, and filled the tank before driving back down to the southern end of town (15 miles). When we got there the fuel gauge was a little below F. They charged her an additional $30 (plus fees and tax) to move the gauge above the F Mark. I would be careful of the gauges and fuel economy of their vehicles if 15 miles is enough to drop a fuel tank down an 1/8th of a tank.\r
When she disagreed with the attendant (tall blonde guy..with no name tag..big surprise there...) at the return lot over the fuel situation, he began yelling at her and treating her like an idiot. Instead of escalating the argument, my wife left, feeling offended and frustrated.\r
If you do not want your family, friends or co-workers to be bullied into higher priced vehicles, scammed into extra fees and then treated very rudely, I would suggest using a different rental company. \r
I know we will NEVER recommend Payless or give them our business again.
Cons: Sketchy rental practices, extra fees, rude customer service
