Terrible Spaying Experience 12/9/2008

Prior to my being allowed to adopt her, my healthy 8-week-old kitten was brought to Value Vet by the Animal Shelter for spaying with pick up by me the same day. A few days after surgery, she required a second surgery due to a postoperative hernia caused by the spaying. Two days after that, she developed significant swelling at the incision area, which Value Vet said ""looked normal and was not cause for concern."" At this point, I took my kitten to my usual vet and learned she had a serious abdominal infection, requiring a third surgery. Ten days post adoption, my once healthy kitten is on heavy doses of antibiotics, and frankly, I hope she survives.\r \r In addition to all of this, the experience at Value Vet was unnecessarily traumatic for my kitten. While the staff seemed genuinely warm, the office manager showed very little compassion for the animals: making my kitten jump in fear by slamming shut the steel door of her cage; having me bring her there at 8:30 a.m., only to perform surgery on her 5-hours later; and finally, placing this teeny sick kitten in a cage next to a huge, loudly barking dog. When we left Value Vet, my normally meek and quiet kitten was truly hysterical, flinging herself against the side of her carrier over and over and screaming ""OW, OW, OW,"" the whole way home. It was horrible to witness.\r \r The facility itself is dirty and dusty. While I don't want to be overcharged by a veterinary clinic, I do want to have confidence that my pet is being given compassionate and excellent treatment. I am concerned that she received neither at Value Vet. Pros: It's cheaper than other vet clinics Cons: Dirty, poor surgical result more
