Slow Workers and they come to the job unprepared. 12/29/2008

I hired this firm to install an overhead heater in my garage. The gas feed was already available and only needed a five foot section of pipe attached. Existing pipe was pre threaded. Two unsightly rails were bolted to my 2 x 6's in the attic directly from inside the garage. No entry into attic necessary. Unit was hung and exhaust pipe run a total of 4 feet from rear of heater to outside of house. Hole was cut in vinyl siding side wall. Due to not being prepared the job required two trips to my home and on the second trip it took two plumbers five hours to do the above work. The first trip was one plumber who was not prepared to do much of anything and said that they did not give him all the info. He surveyed the situation and a couple of days later he returned with the helped. My total bill was; Service Call $45, Materials $345.76 and Labor $1,190. I FURNISHED THE HEATER.. The heater cost me 550. Total job $2,131. I had been previously quoted a price of 1,500 for a turn key job that included the heater. Did not use them because I needed the job done by a certain time and they could not work it in their schedule. I hired Hill and Hill on Time and Materials and they billed 631 dollars more than I would have paid with the other firm. I called them and they said owner would return my call, he never did and after a week I called them and talked to him. He was not going to ever consider reevaluating the work done by his men and said it was fair price. In my opinion and based on my first estimate my opinion is that they milked the job for extra money. I would not recommend them to anyone. Pros: Was able to do the job on short notice Cons: Price was unreasonable, Install looks like amateur work. Slow workers, more
