I live not too far from the Gaslamp (about 10 minutes north) and I've been in a few times now and always have a good experience. I've had a few different dinners. My present favorite is the blackened swordfish. I've been on a seafood kick lately and also love King's. This is comparable to their dishes I think. It came with rice and veggies and it was all really well prepared.
I also enjoy the margaritas there (my drink of choice). And I was in for a happy hour recently and it was only $2.75! That's pretty hard to beat.
I've also been to a couple of the wine tastings on Thursdays (trying to graduate from the margaritas for dinner). The hostess is super friendly and informative. And either the pours are pretty generous, or she was flirting with me. Either way, it was cool.
I'm in my late 30s, dine out regularly, and feel totally comfortable highly recommending the Gaslamp. Everybody I've encountered has been totally welcoming and friendly and the food and drinks have been really good. Not to be too gay or anything, but there's a really nice vibe in the place.
Pros: good food and drinks, wine tasting, easy free parking
Cons: hours of operation aren't posted
