We had many contacts with the VRCC system due to having a very sick little puppy. Initially our visits were to the emergency department. We felt like our care was very good during these experiences. When our puppy needed to see specialists though, our care became very difficult and frustrating. the different systems do not communicate and work together. The emergency department acts like a gatekeeper. They would take our money, do very little, send us home and we would come back with a sicker puppy. We would again have to pay the gatekepper to then be transferred to a specialist. Things were not explained well at all. When we shared our experience we were made to feel at fault. Our puppy had a consultation with a neurologist who recommended thoughsands of dollars of tests but would not talk to us so that we could ask questions and see if the tests made sense. We ended up having the tests done at Alameda East whose system was much easier to navigate. Our experince with Dr Wheeler (interist) was very good. Otherwise it was crazy making and felt like a business instead of a place that wanted to care for my puppy. Our beloved puppy lost his fight at 1.5years old just recently. he fought and we fought but in the end it was too much to overcome. he remains a very loved and special puppy to us.
