Tools missing after install, overwhelming circumstantial evidence pointed to installers - owner refused any consideration 11/7/2008

Had them install a door on a remote shed located on a private 50 acre ranch. To their credit, the install went as planned, price was reasonable.\r \r This shed is 1/4 mile from a public road on property guarded by a dog. To get to the shed, you need to walk across a bridge that is located right next to master bedroom of house. The shed isn't visible from anywhere off the property, and neighbors are in their 60's. We've lived on the property for 12 years and have never had anything go missing. The installation involved two trips with two different sets of employees over the course of 4 days.\r \r With that as background - there were a number of tools under a tarp in this unlocked shed before their staff arrived. The day they left, the tarp was still in place, but a $300 compound miter and a $100 tool bag had been removed. The overwhelming evidence points to theft by one of their employees. I reviewed the evidence with the owner - he categorically denied they could have had any involvement and made no offers of even nominal compensation in light of the evidence. He then proceeded to get rude when I pressed the issue.\r \r It's possible they didn't do it, but you'd have to believe that by coincidence some one came on property during those 4 days, braved the dog, found the shed, took two of the 20+ tools in the shed and then placed the tarp back over so no one would notice - and then carried the 30lb saw a 1/4 mile back off the property... Highly unlikely. If you have them do any work - I wouldn't leave any tools out.\r \r rm more
