But I'm guessing it's the former. They tried to charge us a fee for a no-fee apartment. I argued, they didn't charge, but then acted personally insulted that I was conducting a business transaction wherein I looked out for my own best interests. (I believe it was mentioned that I had a bad attitude. I tend to, when people want to charge me thousands of dollars more than the agreed upon price.)\r
It's the same old bait-and-switch routine other people have mentioned. They'll talk out of both sides of their mouths, play good cop-bad cop, lie, harass you on the phone until they decide to ignore you, and then tell you they did you a favor.\r
From what I could tell at the lease signing, the landlord had a similar story.\r
I've lived in NYC for a long long time, and I thought this sort of behavior was going away. But I guess it's not. Thanks, Rapid, for keeping the tradition alive!
