Saw Ms Brooks for the fist time last night and ... Wow! Great voice, great performer, fabulous band. Didn't know what to expect because this type of music is hard to find in LA ... not really jazz ... more ""lounge"" if that's a category ... A new interpretation of the greatest standards ever written ... Julie London, Peggy Lee, Lena Horne with a little Judy Garland for good measure ... Brooks is one gorgeous lady and when she sings, especially in that low register, she burns up the stage. The arrangements were spectacular, Tom Garvin really knows who he's working with and how to put together songs for this performer. M Bar is a great room for this type of act ... plush red velvet drapes, chandeliers, candle light and sumptuous booths (could use a little freshening up though, especially if they are going to books acts of this caliber) ... not your typical live music venue in LA ... especially if your looking for a late night spot for ""one more for the road."" She's got more shows coming up at the M Bar ... Brooks is a hip new interpretation of the golden era of great torch singers ... so go she her before she's gone.
Pros: Great ambience
Cons: Could use a little freshing up
