My husband and I recently began attending services at Walnut Hills and we already feel at home. It was hard to find a progressive church on Des Moines' west side among the many big-box, conservative ones dominating the scene. Walnut Hills is family-friendly and has many great programs oriented toward social justice, service, and interfaith connections. And, it's easy to get to--it's on Hickman, just off I-80--yet in a serene setting on a hill with many old-growth trees.
Pros: Progressive theology, great music, comfortable setting, family-friendly congregation
