My husband surprised me by taking me here last night. We live nowhere near here but he insisted we had to drive to Williamsburg to this secret spot. Turns out it is a midnight jungle with bordello-like nooks and crannies and curtains that guarantee every seating is its own hideaway. As for the food, I was surprised how good it was. I normally eat sushi and sashimi when I do Japanese, so I'm a little rusty with yakitori (most closely translated as Japanese bar food). The editorial review that says 4 or 5 dishes is enough for 2 is wrong. We were only full after sharing 8 dishes between us (full disclosure- we were very hungry and I have a healthy appetite). Obviously, YMWV. The really great dishes included the tuna carpaccio, eel and cream cheese tempura, eggplant, pork kakuni, and salmon in dashi broth. The dishes that were less than spectacular were the black cod (overwhelmingly salty), tofu with scallops (completely bland), and mushrooms in bechamel sauce ( a little less bland than the tofu). We were very sad when we were too full for dessert, but we are definitely going back to try out the other dishes. The total bill was a reasonable $85 w/o sake.
Pros: Great place for romantic special ocassions
