UPDATE I do not go here anymore. In the last two years this place has done a HUGE 360. It lost some of its best staff and is just not consistant for the price. I do not mind high price food but the food and the service have to be consistant. \r
\r
A real shame.\r

\r
I actually do wonder if you where at the wrong location. There is a chain called Kabuki which is not related to the location on Reseda. The chain does lead a lot to be desired. \r
\r
However, the independently owned Kabuki located on Reseda in between Lassen and Plumber is wonderful. I like the other people who recommend this restaurant have eaten at some of the best sushi bars and find this place to be right up there with them.\r
\r
I have been going to Kabuki for over 20. There is no ambiance at all, but the food and the service make up for that. Most of the clients are return customers and you get a close family feeling once you come a few times. Most nights there is a wait. On Sundays the \r
place opens @ 5 pm and there is always the same group of 15 people waiting in line to get in the door.\r
\r
Maybe you had a new chef, maybe it was an off night but I can say I have never had bad unagi sauce (in fact I, my friends and most of the other people in the restaurant get a side of the sauce) smelly fish or gotten sick from this restaurant. Pretty good track record for 20 years (and staying in business that long) I cannot wait to eat there again.
Pros: food and the people
Cons: no ambience
