A rival to the best in Los Angeles 7/16/2007

This place is great. From the unusual and fantastic cocktail menu to the unique twists on tasting plates, everything is perfect. They were a little late opening that night (10 minutes or so) and the host appeared to be a bit irritated about something, so I was anticipating a less than stellar experience. The charming waitress, ""Cat,"" put our fears to rest. She was pleasant, knowledgeable, and very helpful. She explained the restaurant's tapas approach and the order and speed of service so we wouldn't be surprised or misinterpret the rapidity of food delivery. While everything came with little space between each item, we never felt rushed. Service was attentive (if occasionally a little amateurish). The food was among the best we've ever had. Each item was 3-5 obvious ingredients which combined into a delightful taste sensation. Layers of flavor, beautiful presentations, and unusual combinations of ingredients were present in every dish. We added a hummus dish to our order when we realized we still had a little room left and expected it to be less unusual than the other offerings. It wasn't. We split five orders plus dessert and were full without being stuffed. We'll be back often. more
