I love this place. The menu is huge, there is definitely something for everyone. I would highly recommend a dish called Tuscarora Chicken....it is excellent. It's breaded chicken pan fried and topped with a bell pepper cheese sauce, sinfully good. They are also famous for their French Onion soup. I had it for the first time last fall and am completely addicted to it and get it every time I go. Friday's in lent don't miss their fish fry's, best in town. You also have got to try their homemade Peanut Butter pie, it's perfect because it's not too peanut buttery like so many peanut butter pies are, try it with a cup of one of their specialty coffee's like the Nutty Irishman. Another recommendation is if you like to drink Manhattans you'll love this place. You get the Manhattan of your choice mixed or shaken to perfection. They serve it with a rocks glass and a shaker full on the side so you can keep refilling throughout dinner, it's fantastic!!!! I can't say enough about this place, I have taken many of my clients there over the past year and eveyone I take there is just asimpressed by the excellent food and service as I am. Every time I've dined at The Blackthorn I've seen politicians in there enjoying a meal in the dining room or having a drink at the bar.Mayor Byron Brown, Congressman Brian Higgins, State Assemblyman Mark Shroeder, Comptroller Mark Polancarz, Legislator Tim Kennedy, just to name a few. One night over the winter I stopped in for dinner with my husband and there were news trucks outside, we walked in the restaurant and there sitting at the bar was Tim Russert. Later I found out they were taping a segment on the nightly news about Tim Russert and his dad. Come to find out that The Blackthorn is their favorite restaurant, who knew!!! In my opinion The Blackthorn is Buffalo's best kept secret. I will continue to enjoy their warm, cozy, and inviting atmosphere, the friendliness of their owner's and staff, and the wide variety of their delicious dishes!!!
Pros: excellent food, large menu, warm atmosphere, friendly service, great drinks, best fish fry in town
Cons: no patio yet, but the ower said they're getting one for next summer!!!
