I've only had a take-out order from this particular Bandits and the food is about the same as the times I had it in Thousand Oaks. I was glad I ordered over the phone because when I went to pick up my food, the doors were locked. That was over 45 minutes prior to when they were supposed to close.
I almost always order the a la carte ribs combo. It doesn't come with sides, but I get beef, baby-back and St. Louis style ribs at a good price point. The sides are okay, but nothing worth leaving room for if your stomach isn't big enough to eat all those ribs and the sides. The BBQ sauce is a little sweet and smokey and while it's not the best sauce I've every had in Ventura County (it was at Smoke's Cookehouse which is now closed), it's fairly good.
I like Bandits, but why not 4 or 5 stars? It's because the food quality and the service is inconsistent. The cooking is almost always done right, but the ingredients isn't always of the same quality. About 20-30% of the time, I would get beef ribs that are really bare to the bone and since that's my favorite rib type, I have to dock Bandits down a notch. What also takes it down another star is because of the service. Sometimes, it's very obvious that they really don't care to be there to wait on you.
Overall, the food was fine and if I had to choose a place close-by for BBQ, I'll stop by again.
