There are very few bars in Albany where you walk in and immediately feel at home. "Home," in this case, has quite a few more holes punched in the ceiling than your friend Joe's basement, but, still, the ambience is there. And along with it comes super-friendly service, a relaxed and tight-knit clientele, and a river of Jameson that sparkles invitingly as it flows...continuously...from behind the bar. Expect a jukebox heavy on classic rock (CCR, Zeppelin, Springsteen) and Irish folk but know that you won't get anywhere near it on Wednesdays, when the spirit of Ian MacKaye takes over for Punk Night (facilitated by a rather un-punk iPod).
McCormack's is still the best kept secret in Albany; many don't even know its real name or that it has a name at all. Check it out before it gets too popular for its own good and becomes another Palais. Which we can all agree would be depressing.
