Mickey comes to South Beach 7/14/2007

Suburbanites, teenagers, tourists will be impressed. Great place to take your teenagers for their birthday. If you are looking for an actual South Beach restaurant experience, with an adult sophisticated crowd, avoid. The atmosphere and approach is so gimmicky, the wait staff nice but inexperienced. The food was tasty, but pedestrian. One thing that was unbelievably annoying: my wife simply asked for a substitution on the bbq ribs: she wanted cauliflower mash (which is on the menu with another item) instead of new potatoes. The waiter simply said, ""no, we don't do that"", and refused to do the substitution. ""It would ruin the presentation"". Ridiculous! We are talking bbq ribs for crying out loud. We live in San Francisco, eat at the nicest restaurants in that city, and in others, and there is one answer for that request: of course! These people need to read Danny Meyers book. Danny owns I think 13 restaurants in Manhattan, and understands customer service and hospitality. ""Setting the Table: The Transforming Power of Hospitality in Business"". Everybody who works at Barton G should read this book. By the way, if you ever go to Manhattan, go to any of Danny's restaurants... Union Square Cafe, Grammercy Tavern, Blue... among others. Barton G's would be a great Disney World restaurant. It belongs in Orlando, amongst the King Kong billboards, not in SOBE. more
