A Disappointing Experience 6/18/2007

After hearing amazing things about this restaurant, we made reservations and went in on Saturday night. The restaurant is in a great neighborhood and has a very warm, inviting setting. Having heard so much about the prix fixe, we decided to do that with the wine pairing. Now, I have to admit, I really don't enjoy writing a poor review, but after having a wonderful dining experience the night after we ate here, I feel the need to warn people about Knife + Fork. The service was absolutely horrible - the gentleman serving us was blatantly rude and dismissing. I have also never been so appalled by the amount of wine poured. The server barely poured enough for us to take more than one sip of each wine - which completely ruins the idea of a wine pairing. The first three courses, ""the starters"", were cured salmon sashimi, foie gras and pumpkin risotto; each was average - good flavors and well prepared. However, the wines did not pair at all. The flavors, instead of highlighting each other, distracted. The next two courses, ""the main courses"", were a skate with a bean sauce and duck with red wine and licorice reduction; these were below average. The skate was topped by a thick bean sauce, while the duck was extremely bland. The dessert was the best part of the meal - a lime creme brulee served with a muscat. Pros: Good wine list, great ambience Cons: SERVICE, wine/food pairing more
