It was our Anniversary and we decided to do a beautiful dinner at the Spiced Pear. We had been looking forward to it for a while. We go out fine dining quite a bit and we didn't think that this place would disappoint. The atmosphere is great- we went on a Friday night for the fantastic jazz in the veranda room. We had drinks and apps there first before retiring to the dining room for dinner a while later. In the veranda room we had spotty service, and a beet salad and a few oysters, which we didn't think would be the best our meal was to get. After listening to jazz for a few hours we headed to the dining room and ordered a nice bottle of wine. I had a foie gras appetizer which was breaded and deep fried with what tasted like maple syrup on it and a super sweet cherry foam which had no semblense to the dish, it was terrible. My husband's escargot was fairly decent but too salty for my taste. For dinner I had a Sunfish which would have been great- but it was beyond salty and my husband who actually loves salt couldn't even eat it. The biggest disappointment to the meal was my husband's $75 Kobe Beef Ribeye. Ribeye steak is usually marbelized with fat which gives the flavor, but not completey covered with fat. There was barely any meat. I cannot believe that a chef at a place like this would feel good about serving a piece of meat like this. You could get a better steak at a chain restaurant. Also the balsamic reduction was not reduced enough, making it runny and entirely too acidic. Our wine was the best part of the meal. I would go back to this place for the veranda food only (pizzas and burgers), but I wouldn't expect much but a great view.
Pros: beautiful view
Cons: food does not match with the high end place.
