Barleys Taproom in downtown Greenville is the place to go to meet locals and have a microbrew and a great, super-huge slice of pizza. The restaurant downstairs is appropriate for families (& smokefree) and the upstairs pool-hall is fun for the grown-ups (that room can even be rented out for private parties!). Give yourself some time to eat there- not a good place if you're in a hurry- the pizzas are made to order and calzones can take over 20 minutes to bake. The fresh spinach salads are my favorite. And the chef who makes the soup de jour and cheesecakes is awesome!! This is not your average bar. Only beer-snobs need visit. They specialize in micro-brews and soon they'll carry that high-octane beer that the state government just approved for sale in SC (higher alcohol content)!! If you just want to have a glass of wine or beer and relax with the regulars ""where everyone knows your name"", this is the place. Kids want pizza but you can't stomach those over-processed, nasty pizza chains any longer? Treat yourself to a gourmet slice of pizza and a refreshing summer ale instead! Oh, and you MUST try the home made black-bean hummus. Delicious!
Pros: Cool hangout- lots of regulars- great bar upstairs- beautiful pool tables- big, fresh food
Cons: lots of kids downstairs in the dining room, sometimes have to pay to park, gets real busy downstairs around 7PM.
