You've probably heard that so many sushi restaurants are ""the best in LA"". My description of Katsu Ya in Studio City as such isn't based on my sole perception, but the reaction I get whenever I mention it to anyone. Hands down, it ranks as everyone's favorite sushi spot, and with good reason. The items on their menu are unique and mouthwatering, the spicy tuna on crispy rice is savory, the crispy onion on seared albacore is fantastic. The restaurant itself has a rustic charm to it, although the only drawback is that it's located in the corner of a stripmall. When I heard that Nobu was located in a strip mall in Malibu, it was a huge drawback, but once you're inside KatsuYa in Studio City - and see the line outside it at the valet - it's a different story. Sure, you might catch a star sighting or two there (e.g., Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz) but the star-sighting isn't the reason to go here. It's the quality of the food. Hands down the BEST sushi in LA. Don't think - just go. And definitely make a reservation. :)
Pros: Amazing sushi, variety of sushi options, service
Cons: Located in strip mall
