My favorite place 3/25/2007

Since I have left Detroit, I think it's fair to let others know about my best kept secret. As an Asian and Foodie, this is my favorite place in Detroit. I would drive half an hour each way, twice a week to go there. Now I am in Cleveland, I would visit everytime I go to Detroit, and even rent a car at the airport when I have long layover at DTW. You will find the restaurant to be 90-95% asian...a sign of the food's authenticity and value. It's a clean and comfortable atmosphere with good service...a little busy at times for it's a good restaurant. It's not expensive or stuffy as the other Japanese places in Novi. The noodles are good, and the best in Detroit/Michigan. The sushi is outstanding, and the price is very reasonable (the Japanese owner is the sushi chef). I would put it against Noble fish for value, except Ajishin's cuts are thicker, therefore more feel to the bite. Anybody can cut fish, but the real test of the sushi chef is the Tomago (egg). Try their Tomago and you'll know what I mean. The grilled fish is my favorite dish where you get grilled fish, half bowl of noodles, rice and pickles for a very reasonable price. I love their cod jaw, but seems like they have been out of them recently. Other items on their menu are delicately done as should true Japanese food. Don't forget their spicy curry rice and rice ball (both not on the menu). The only thing bad about this place is it's very busy at times, and you might have to wait up to 45 minutes...so make a reservation early if you can. Hope I don't regret writing this review as I may face longer waits in the future. Enjoy your meal! Pros: Service, tea, quality/freshness/authenticity of food Cons: The wait, sorry vegetarians not much there for you more
