We actually have just recently replaced our trash cans, more so out of courtesy to the refuse collectors. We had been using the same two plastic cans since moving in 7 years ago, and even then, they came with the house, and had been already used for I don't know how long. Anyway, the bottoms of the cans were giving way, and the handles long gone. Essentially we replaced them so it would be easier for them to pick up. I think if they have a habit of throwing down people's trash cans, ours wouldn't have lasted for so many years!
