Nice place, mediocre food 2/1/2007

This is a nice place, but the food is nothing special. I dined here last Wednesday evening with four friends. The service is very friendly, but, seems perpetually confused. They just seem uncertain about who ordered what, occasionally confuse tables' orders, didn't know the soup of the day had been changed, etc. I don't consider the space small - certainly not by Manhattan standards. We were seated in the front of the house on a cold evening and the chill seeps through the 'french doors', which took away from the dining experience. Worse when the door opened. The food is surprisingly indisctinct. We should expect more from such a rich cuisine and a kitchen that claims a heritage to New Orleans. I had the jambalaya in which the rice was soft and the meats dry and undistinguished. A nice, short selection of beers, but a lackluster wine list. The substantial portions are reasonably priced, but the food is nothing special. Pros: Friendly service Cons: Mediocre food, drafty front dining area more
