The Second Empire features a menu second to none in the Triangle. Everything on the plate is there for a very specific reason, to compliment the main feature in flavor. I have enjoyed the Tavern/Atrium dining on a few occasions and prefer it to the Upstairs only because two menus are offered downstairs, a tavern menu and Upstairs menu. Undeniably, Dining in the main area, which is what I refer to by 'upstairs', is more romantic, and a bit quieter, but I like the menu options in the tavern. My only complaint is that I have seen some condescension from the wait staff, but this is not an 'every time' occurrence. Dine Upstairs for romantic purposes, as atmosphere rivals the Angus Barn, dine in the Tavern, preferably the Atrium if you are going with a friend to enjoy great food. Noise may be problematic on the weekend though...
