We have been to Gray's several times and have always been satisfied with the food and service. Our family tradition is to dine out on Christmas at a finer restaurant. Based on our prior dining experiences at Gray's, we thought it would be a great choice for this year. We made our reservation several weeks in advance and received a copy of the special menu which sounded great. We were sadly very disappointed. There was not a holiday atmosphere and very few fellow diners. This was our first warning sign. We requested a booth, but were told they were all reserved. While we were there, only 1 other couple was seated at another table. Second warning sign. Shortly before we left 2 groups arrived, without reservations and were seated at the booths. The server was confused with our wine request from the wine list. The food was non-descript. Two of us had the prime rib and two had the sole. Not at all what we had experienced in the past. Almost immediately upon being seated, our order was requested including our dessert choice. It all felt very rushed. Next year, back to the Chop House or Hudson's where they understand and offer fine Holiday dining experiences.
