Forester Auto Repair 12/21/2007

Took my '99 Forester in for an oxygen sensor to be replaced. They wanted to charge me a diagnostic charge even though I knew what the problem was beforehand as I have my own code reader. The serviceman grumbled and went to talk to a mechanic. He then quoted me $150 for the part and $130 for labor for a total of $280!! I declined their services as I thought the price was outrageious maybe they inflated the price in order to get the "diagnostic charge" one way or another. I have searched around and just discovered the oxygen sensor lists at Mike's Auto Parts for $103 and they sold it to me for $63.99. I changed it in the rain and it took me, at the most, 15 minutes using a crescent wrench! I just saved myself $216.00!!! The check engine light is off and is staying off. Yippee!! So listen up all you Subaru owners. I would highly recommend you purchase a diagnostic tool (approx. $40.00) and if you get a "check engine" light and the code reads: PO136, Bank 1, Sensor 2........this is your chance to save big. Take my word for it, it's an easy fix. Pros: Hmmmmm....... Cons: Long waiting lines, inability to talk to service people on the phone, treated skeptically when you want a specific task performed more
