What can you say about a $27 pizza? 12/5/2007

Three of us were in Astoria and wanted a pie and a pitcher of beer. So we tried Sac's. What could warrant a $27 sausage pizza? Not ambience; Sac's doesn't have any. One side of the place is very below average slice slinger decor. The "restaurant" side has either a small dark area or a cold plexi-glassed sidewalk area. All in all, the place does not strike you as exceedingly clean. As a few people have already mentioned, you don't go there for the service. The waiters are more interested in talking with each other than bringing you your food. The biggest insult, however, was that the $27 specialty coal-oven pizza wasn't even freshly made. Judging by the chewy texture of the very thin crust, that baby had been sitting around waiting to be reheated. When it was brought to the table it was warm -- not piping hot as you may expect a fresh pizza. By the time you took the second slice, it was cold. The only thing that deserves 5 stars is the utter audacity the owners have to charge what they do for a less than mediocre dining experience. Pros: None that I can think of. Cons: Greatly overpriced with little pride in product or service. Pie was cold and reheated. more
