I began seeing Carrie Torres two years ago. Initially I must admit I was terrified to try massage therapy. I am an abuse survivor, as well as recoverED from a lifelong eating disorder and self-injury. Needless to say, I was more than uncomfortable with someone "touching" my body - even in a way that was beneficial to my healing. Not only was Carrie sensitive to my needs, in no way judgmental of old scars and injuries, but she went out of her way to educate herself, further than her traditional schooling, on the issues I faced and how they related to body memories and triggers and how she could avoid initiating a trigger or how she could help me work through a trigger should one arise. This alone helped me to feel that she truly validated my experiences and how extremely difficult a decision this was for me to make. As an added bonus, I found that Carrie was extremely personable, often sharing funny family stories to make me laugh and feel at ease. She allowed me to pick music that relaxed me, and found a non-Aloe massage product (something not easy to do in this day and age) so that I would not have to worry about allergies. I am more than happy to report that, due to her extreme skills, compassion and patience, I now look forward to getting a relaxing massage and, in fact, consider it a treat in my busy schedule. I can honestly state that I doubt you will find a massage therapist with better credentials, scheduling flexibility and a stronger desire to see you happy and healthy again than Carrie Torres. I would highly recommend her to all patients, including those who deal with trauma.
Pros: trauma work, ease of schedule, relaxing atmosphere, great personality
Cons: none
