This is what neglect does to a hotel 11/7/2007

My family started staying here when I was a teenager back in the 70's and we always liked it but as time went by it really became run down. It's too bad because in general Hilton's are rather decent. (although this particular one was privately owned by Merv Griffin) I remember the penthouse restaurant in the pre Stardust days when it was L'Escoffier and it was as fabulous as a restaurant could be. In fact many people claim Merv bought the hotel just so he could always have his favorite table there. The current Stardust is not noteworthy. You get the feeling that this was a wonderful place in days gone by but it has fallen into ruin. The hotel has a shabby sense about it. Again, it's ashame because it was such a glorious place & in a primo location. If you are in Beverly Hills go to any number of other very fine, elegant hotels. This one will be a let down. Pros: Great location Cons: shabby (and I don't mean chic) more
