A Gem Of Southeast Los Angeles And A Local Favorite! 11/13/2007

When you first enter the restaurant you?ll find a very modern European atmosphere with a stylish color palate of sunset gold walls, maple hardwood floors, pewter grey carpeting, burgundy & gold linens, and suspended mini halogen spot lights illuminating the cozy dining area. There?s a lovely Turn-of-the-Century style mural in the perspective of the Avenue de la Grande Armee overlooking the Arc de Triomphe in Paris on the western facing wall flanked by an extensive wine shelf that is sure to please any wine drinker. The food is reasonably priced despite the petite portions, which cleverly leaves room dessert. The Vanilla Creme Brule, one of my favorites, is served with fresh berries and a decorative drizzle of chocolate sauce. In addition, I recommend the Chocolate Souffle (be sure to ask your server at the beginning of the meal) and the Bananas Flambe which is prepared for you at the table proving to be added entertainment especially if you?re lucky enough to have Chef Zaya prepare it for you himself! As for the rest of your meal, you can?t go wrong picking anything from their menu. But, if you need a little guidance, I?d advise you to start off with the Escargot with Champignons or the Crab Cakes. Follow it up with the Shrimp Bisque or, if they have it on the day you?re there, their special Cream of Mushroom soup. Then top it off with Lamb Chops Au Poivre, the Filet Mignon or the Seafood Lovers entree. Plus, there is outdoor seating and a partially enclosed spot just off of the main dining area; both ideal for private parties. Chef Zaya can often be seen conversing with patrons at their tables. In keeping with Zaya's affable reputation, the staff is equally friendly and attentive. For those of you familiar with Elmer Dills, Le Chef was one of his favorite places to visit when he was actively reporting for KABC 7 news. I can see why. Le Chef is a great place for a fine dining experience without burning a hole in your pocket. Pros: good food, prices, parking, service, romantic, parties of 100 or less, party planning help Cons: not for children under the age of 5 more
