We decided to visit Knife and Fork with very low expectations, just as we have with other restaurants that have mixed citysearch reviews. We are sometimes dissapointed as was the case with ""L----- G----"" another East Village restaurant and sometimes, pleasantly suprised. In Knife and Fork's case, I was blown away. They seemed to favor the tasting menu, so we went with it, thinking ""if this is horrible, then it's only $45 for 6 courses."" Every course was amazing, though it did border on too much food by the 6th course. The bread lived up to what other citysearchers wrote about it. We even bought a loaf before we left! The service I can understand some people not liking, that's if you love constant attention - I don't like being ""over-serviced"", as most of the time I find it insincere. We'll definetly go back, just to try the delicious looking cheese plate which I couldn't manage after that tasting menu. I'd recommend you try this place. I think the reviews overall end up painting a deceiving picture.
Pros: ingridient combinations I've never seen before
Cons: no liquor
