i go to austin a lot and i always drive down to smitty's in lockhart to eat and also to bring back a few pounds of brisket and sausages to LA. we went to black's one night because we got a late start smitty's and kreuz were already closed. anyway, the people who work there were pretty nice and easygoing, but the brisket and ribs weren't anywhere near what i was expecting. brisket was a little dry and plain and the ribs were tougher than i expected. smitty's is the best in town (and anywhere else) and kreuz is a close second. i would put blacks at a distant third...
