It's been a while since we've had anything this good 8/22/2006

My husband and I waited a long time before going to Table 6, mainly because every time we drove by, it was packed to the gills and we were starving. We attributed the popularity of the restaurant primarily to the Esquire write up it got a few years ago. Of course we thought it was probably deserving of good press, but there are so many stellar restaurants in Denver that we couldn't imagine that it was light years ahead of some of our other gems.\r Well, we finally got a chance to go. I couldn't believe it. It had literally been years since I'd had food that good in this city, and thats saying something. We started with an appetizer of mussels. They were very fresh and in a white wine/mustard sauce that was packed with flavor without being overpowering. I ordered the seared halibut with the green tomato hache and the red heirloom tartar. Not only was the fish fresh again but the two sauces were bold and livened up this delicate fish without destroying its clean flavor. My husband ordered the crisp duck confit, which he said was possibly the most expertly prepared duck he's ever had. I wouldn't know; I was so in love with my dish, I didn't think to ask for a taste of his. \r The waiter suggested wine to go with our appetizer and my husband's meal. I'm nine months pregnant, so I was abstaining. As a result, my husband was hesitant to get a whole bottle. The waiter suggested two wonderful choices from their respectable wine list for each of the dishes. They even poured a half glass to be served with the appetizer. My husband is a sommelier, and was very pleased with the recommendations the waiter made. \r All in all, I'm so thrilled we finally made it to Table 6. If I had to choose one adjective to describe the food here, it would be bold. With the limited space available to review on Citysearch, I can't really do this place justice. Suffice it to say that each taste of food was relished and we will absolutely be going back to experience more of Table 6. Pros: Some of the best food around, knowledgeable staff, respectable wine list Cons: Can tend to be crowded and no ressies, so go early or when you don't mind a wait more
