My experience with VCA (I've gone only when necessary for past 4 years) is they do what I feel are many unecessary procedures that add up to costly fees. If you don't ask specifically what each procedure is and how much it will cost, you will end up with a hefty bill. Most of the staff is nice but should be more up front of what is REALLY necessary and not. Don't go here if you're on a budget!!
