So, if you're going to be driving to Monterey, I'd like to suggest that take 17 over the hill and stop at the Whole Enchilada in Moss Landing. It has very good Mexican food and it's a lot more interesting than most Mexican restaurants. They often have three different kinds of tamales. The bad news is if you want to go north on Hwy 1 when you leave. THEN you have to make a left-hand turn across the highway.
