A builder, I am at a building supply store almost every day. If I can help it, I am NOT at Home Depot. Granted, they stock almost everything I need, and often they are the only ones in town that will have that certain something. Problem is, the rare Associate who offers to help is usually underqualified, and the qualified Associates are indifferent to my needs. Now that the West Knoxville store has been renovated, it is impossible to find items in logical fashion (one just has to memorize the locations), and they nearly force you to use self-checkouts. I'd be ok with this option, even knowing that its more of a bottom line decision than a customer service one, except that 3 out of ten items won't ring up properly. To beat all, I have learned it is necessary to completely unbox and inspect every item before purchase if I want to save return trips due to damaged merchandise. Griping aside, I have to remind myself that I am at Home Depot because they have something I am looking for, and you can't expect a retailer that big to have mom-and-pop hardware store kind of service. So this has become the average, and I'll give 'em an average rating, dadgummit.
Pros: Selection, Availability
Cons: Service, Quality, Corporate mentality
