The Barnes & Noble in Newport is a great store in which to wander around. It's two stories, including a large Starbucks coffee bar upstairs. There's an outdoor patio, too, when you can have your drinks/food, but you can't take unpurchased books outside.
I've never had any trouble finding what I want, and the staff has always been helpful when I needed them.
