There are always crowds in front of this place but my husband and I cannot fathom how the pizza became so popular. We called it ""stewed tomato pie."" And even if one were inclined toward that sort of dish, the stewed tomatoes lack flavor and spice and you end up with a bland melange of tomatoes and melted cheese. We went a second time out of fairness, and ordered their regular pizza. It was loaded, again, with the tasteless tomato sauce and I spent most of my dinner scraping off tomatoes and trying to get some semblance of flavor from what remained. There are SO many great pizzas in the East Bay. It blows my mind this place is rated so well. I would not recommend Zachary's but by all means, go there if you like and leave room for the rest of us at other spots on Saturday night.
