Those familiar with spanish cuisine will likely be disapointed with this Portland institution. We had a group of 9 the other night and sampled many small plates. I would rate the menu as conservative - the array of tapas was adequate though not comprehensive, with an emphasis on unitimidating. Execution was also average- the food lacked any bold or distinguishing flavors. Service was terrible - the waiter knew little about spanish wines, and seemed determined to push us into the safest parts of the menus even after we had ordered anchovies and sweetbreads. Misread the table badly. Wine list ok - but would have loved to have a waiter who might have introduced us to some less-well travelled paths. Overall, prices are quite fair - with two bottles of wine, a pitcher of sangria for about $23 per head, tip already included with only one desert ordered. Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: unispired safe menu, staff lacks knowledge, uninspired cooking more
