Visiting the RB Pier these days (now that its new parts are fully integrated) is very reminiscent of my childhood years when my father ""forced"" us to drive an hour in a beat up station wagon to ""the pier"". It's still a great place to spend the day near the ocean, stroll through some kitschy shops, indulge in some clam chowder, watch the people, and just cop a squat and enjoy the antics of the local seagull population. Enjoy some SoCal history and have lunch and a cocktail at the old Tony's on the pier, or take the family for an afternoon of arcade games and fresh steamed crab. What could be better?
Pros: fresh air, lots of parking
Cons: crowded weekends
