I’m disgusted 5/15/2019

I am unable to post this without giving it at least one star. I would give it zero stars. They have lost me as a loyal customer. I had been going to Roberts and Wendt for over 30 years. When my first Dobie had 10 puppies Dr. Wendt wanted to examine them, dock their tails and remove their dew claws himself because he had an affinity for Dobies after working with them during WWII. Over the years Dr. Victoria Wendt has taken care of and euthanized 3 canine members of our family. Two years ago when we rescued two kittens, male and female litter mates, we brought them to Dr. Wendt for her to examine. This past Saturday I called them very concerned because our female cat Lucy was in respiratory distress. The night before she had vomited up two pieces of upholstery she swallowed from a dining room chair. I was concerned that she had some kind of partial obstruction causing this trouble breathing. I happen to be a nurse and I recognized the retractions she was having and the rapid respiratory rate. Respiratory distress isn’t hard to catch whether it be a human or a cat. Her tongue and the inside of her mouth remained pink though and she rested comfortably on my lap as I stayed up with her most of the night. I didn’t want to go to the emergency vet because I knew it would cost a fortune that I couldn’t really afford. By morning Lucy was a little bit better and able to eat her breakfast. At 9 o’clock when the clinic opened I was probably the first caller to see if I could bring her in to be checked out. A female desk clerk stated they had no same-day appointments available. I asked if they did not keep some same-day appointments available for their regular patients with emergencies. She stated they did but there weren’t any more available that day implying they had already been taken. If I wasn’t the first person to call that morning I was darn close to being the first so either she was lying and they never had any appointments set aside for regular patients or they just didn’t want to treat a cat who might be seriously ill. I became upset and started crying and explained my long history with that veterinary practice. I asked the technician on the phone if she would please check with one of the doctors to see if I could bring my cat in. With an exasperated sigh she told me she would bring Lucy’s chart to one of the doctors to ask if they would let me bring Lucy in. When she returned to the phone she told me Dr. Wendt said to go to the emergency room. I am so very disappointed and angry at this treatment. Or should I say lack of treatment. I will never return to Roberts and Wendt again and I will tell everybody I know not to go there. And I will write this review on every website I can find to put it. I feel this is inexcusable. For over 30 years I was a loyal customer there. Fortunately I was able to get Lucy in to the West Park animal clinic on Rocky River Drive. It turns out Lucy has asthma! And after an x-ray and a couple of shots of a steroid and long-acting antibiotic we were able to take Miss Lucy home. The visit probably took about 30 minutes. But Dr. Wendt couldn’t be bothered. That just isn’t right in my humble opinion. more
