Old School Haircuts 4/26/2018

Just went to Guido's for the first time; I'd been going to the Haircuttery or similar national chains in the area. Guido's is on the main east-west street in Riverton, a short walk from the RiverLINE station there and a corner property; on the April day I was there it was sun-filled and pleasant. There was only one person ahead of me so it was only a short wait and the only other person in the shop wasn't there to get a haircut but, apparently, a regular who drops by to chat with Guido--which shows how "old school" it is. (He talked about how he gets there "every day" so unless his hair grows really quickly that's the most likely explanation.) Talking to Guido, I found out that his shop has been open almost 40 years and he's a local guy, living in Cinnaminson (the next town to the north) with no plans to retire. The care was excellent--wet shaving the edges of the hair at the neck line and sideburns and trimming eyebrows and ears and nose. The cost was also extremely reasonable--around $12.00 for a senior hair cut. The only down side is that with his hours of 7am to 2 pm Tuesday through Saturday you can't drop by after work for a trim. (On the other hand, he probably won't be awash in bridal parties or kids going to their proms.) On the whole I was pleasantly surprised (I had forgotten what barber shops were like, it had been so long since I'd gone to one) and plan to have my hair cut here regularly. more
