My wife was admitted to Kindred Hospital directly from the SICU unit in Monroe Hospital. She had been on a respirator for almost a month from the paralyzing effect of Guillain Barre Syndrome. She came to Kindred with pneumonia, cardiac arrhythmia, and a sacral bed sore. Quite frankly, as a retired physician, I felt that my wife and many of the other patients at Kindred in previous times would have been treated at a higher level than Kindred. Nevertheless, my wife improved a great deal by the time of discharge 4 weeks later. Her pneumonia was healed as was the bed sore; she had excellent early return to her arms; and heart function was stable. She was ready for a rehab hospital where she is also doing very well. The nursing staff at Kindred are very friendly, informative, and seem to like their job despite the demands of their patients. They succeed because of teamwork as many of the patients are acutely ill. I also have especially high praise for the respiratory therapy team for their care of my wife. They also are team players often helping the nurses with their chores.I also felt the physician care and communication was more consistent with one constant physician in charge.
