An Old Fashioned High Pressure Dishonest Dealer 11/2/2009

I thought dealerships had changed until I went into Mike Shaw Subaru. Ultra high pressure, deceitful dealership. I was a sap to do a deal with them, but I really was in need of a car and they were close to where I work. The first salesperson was nice, then they brought in the high pressure person to close the deal. I had driven this model before so I didn't want to test drive it. The salesperson told me it was a state law that a car could not be sold unless the buyer test drove it. I do not think this is the case. My trade-in was in the shop that day. They got me to give them a trade in value without them seeing the car. I think I underestimated what I should have gotten. My fault, but the pressure was on. We negotiated a price, but then the finance papers were written up with the full sticker price. I did catch that in time. The finance person talked me into an extended warranty. He would not explain the factory warranty for comparison. He told me I would make up part of the cost by it covering the scheduled timing belt replacement. Turns out the timing belt is scheduled for 105,000 miles. 5000 miles after the extended warranty expires. After the extended warranty, the trade-in, the $500 paperwork fee, etc., I think I paid at least $3500 more than I would have at another dealer. So, if you do go there, be ready. Do all your research, check the facts and numbers. They will take advantage of you wherever they can. more
