Best

The food is really good. The price are reasonable and service is excellent. The baked goodies are heavenly.

Worst

La Madelaine is nowhere near the best French restaurant in Houston. In fact, the food served there isn't really french, just expensive knock-offs to what Americans think is french...

good coffee, great bread, simple atmosphere 1/1/2009

Desserts look beautiful and are available in ""mini"" versions. Very good coffee and strawberry jam, excellent savory dishes - we tried tomato and basil soup and beef burgundy crepe. Perfect lunch on January 1st to start off the new year. Pros: good coffee, excellent desserts Cons: none so far more

Tres American-French - Just what you should expect. 9/8/2007

Tres American-French - Good food, with a relaxing and approximate ""French country"" ambience. Is it the very best French food in the city? Possibly not, but then that is not the goal. The salads, soups and meals are consistent. Onion and tomato-basil are exceptional. The French roast coffee is very good. The roasted chicken is well above par and the desserts are excellent, a cardiologists dream. It is a different and nice place for a quick meal, or a relaxing morning or evening dining experience. Pros: Way ahead of comparative semi-fast food Cons: Service spotty - needs improvement more

new owner...less quality 8/23/2003

Ever since La Madelaine was sold to God knows who... the new owners have ruined it. This used to be such a nice place with exceptional service and friendly smiling faces. Now the soup is colder, the people are colder, and the glasses are cheaper. No good restaurant lasts unless someone takes the time to make it good. Pros: some good recipes, fast food Cons: under new owner, poor quality assuranc more

La Madelaine 3/13/2003

La Madelaine is nowhere near the best French restaurant in Houston. In fact, the food served there isn't really french, just expensive knock-offs to what Americans think is french food. The only thing good there are the expensive desserts...and the potato soup! Pros: good desserts, locations Cons: expensive, not so great food more

You're kidding right? 2/23/2003

Best of the Best in Houston. 2/10/2003

La Madeline in First Colony is the Best French Bakery and Cafe on Planet Earth. Chicken Friand w/mushroom sauce, cup of Tomatoe Basil Soup, Salad (small), Anne's Cake is my favorite for dinner. American Breakfast w/sausage, Freash Orange Juice, and Coffee is my favorite for breakfast. Thanks and Regards. Sam Rupani Houston, Texas, United States of America. Pros: Service, Products, Price Cons: Very Busy, Not Big Enough, Long Lines more

classy 1/18/2003

Having eaten in Europe, I find this restaurant to be the most European-like place we have found in the Houston area to visit, have a quiet Sunday brunch, lunch or pop in for coffee. The help is ALWAYS very well groomed, pleasant and helpful. We love our Sunday visits to La Madeline more

NOT ALL THAT 11/27/2002

THEIR COFFEE IS NOT ALL THAT AND A BAG OF CHIPS. more

Good and simple food 11/19/2002

I'm french, so I was interested in going to La Madeleine and find out how ""french"" they really were. They were some hit, but also some miss. The food is overall pretty good, but some of the pastry are below par. Stay away from the chocolate eclair, but do try the Strawberry Napoleon. The croissant, almond croissant, chocolate croissant are very average. I have yet to find a good croissant in the city. The baguette is pretty good. I liked the Tomato basil soup, but not the french onion soup. Also, the service can be very very slow, but they are also very very nice. Good for a quick stop. Pros: Baguette, french roast coffee Cons: chocolate eclair, service speed more

Check your map 11/1/2002

This is not French food. This is American Food servered in a resturant with a French name. That's where the French Connection ends. more

oh please 10/28/2002

La Madeleine is considered the best french resaurant... well people, oyu know nothing about french food then. La madeleine has nothing french apart from the restaurant name. French restaurants are usually small, cozy with amazing dishes to choose from. Try cafe toulouse on woodway and bering instead. Pros: cheap, quick, not french at all Cons: chain restaurant, fast food, tasteless wine more

Lives up to it's French reputation 9/24/2002

Although the food is always great, and fresh... often the service is poor, slow and never consistant. They are also slow in clearing tables. Need to be friendlier!! more

The worst restaurant! 9/1/2002

I have tried La Madeline a few times and it is not French food. I am not sure what they think Frech food would tastes like, but it isn't close. Someone needs to go to France and check it out. more

C'mon 8/29/2002

This is not a french restaurant. It is more of a bistro. If you are looking for fine French dining, this is not the place. more

Varies by Location 8/20/2002

I go for the coffee and pastries. Since the pastries are prepared offsite and shipped in so quality is consistent. Otherwise the food quality is average at best. Ambience is nice. Service and food quality vary by location/management. My favorite store in on Westheimer at Seagler. Pros: Coffee, Pastires Cons: Food, Price more
