always courteous servers, staff and ambiance!

Worst

I'll only talk about the lounge upstairs, since I don't bother eating at the restaurant any longer (too pretentious and not that good). I liked the lounge uptairs in the past and...

Trendy but Good 3/10/2003

It's a hot tredy joint in Rice Village. Great food. Entrees are reasonably priced and good portions. Appetizers are over priced and skimpy. Wine prices are above average, but not outrageous. Worth the trip and the wait. The kitchen is it's strongest point. Upstairs bar is a hang out for the younger crowd and makes a poor holding area for the restaurant que. Downstairs bar is crowded and in the main path of from the kitchen to the tables. The lay is most definately the low point of this otherwise ""neat"" place. I've been to benjy's numerous times, but I've never known about their small dining room upstairs. We had a cozy dinner for two away from the excitement downstairs. For our meal we ventured off the menu for the specials...they did not disappoint. Pros: wine list more

Best salads in the city!! 1/28/2003

This is the best lunch spot in the entire city. The lunch menu features an abundance of entree salads and other gems at reasonable prices. Service is always great, and we always have fun when we eat there. But, we are FANATICAL about the salads. ALL of the salads!! I have never had a better selection of AMAZING salads to choose from!! Benjys is an o.k. place to take a date, but it's definitely not the place to find someone. Plus the drinks are PRICEY Cons: pricey, no singles, more of a restaraunt more

It was one of the BEST evening's I have had in quite some time. We frequent, Tony's, Fogo De Chow, Houston's, Peche's and many other fine dining restaurants and I am very please to say that Benjy's ranks right up there with them all... Although the food is above average, I would hardly say there is much of a singles scene-unless you are looking for an older married man or woman.The times I was there the service was also only average.What was worse, was that they openly aalowed people they knew to skip in line. While sometimes practiced at other restaurants,at the majority they are at least discreet. more

The owner has too much attitude - the ambiance surrounds you in a lubys-type cafeteria with the plastic chairs and table arrangements. Good food - great drinks - just not as happening any more like it used to. Needs a new wine list. more

Get there when it opens! 11/6/2002

Every Sunday at Benji's is a full house. If you don't arrive until 1/2 hour after they open, you'll have to wait. Bring your appetite because they are generous with the portions, especially their unique version of ""French Toast"" which is big enough to split. Don't expect your average brunch fare. If you don't mind a crowded and sometimes lively atmosphere, it is a great place to people-watch while you eat. A trendy spot for all ages. more

Despite looking as if it was decorated by an army of Vern's, this place rocks. The food, wine, and service are all top-notch, and everything is priced, well, too low... And when I ordered my filet ""blue,"" the waitress didn't blink. These folks have their acts together. Don't miss an oppurtunity to stop in! Pros: rocks, the, bah Cons: Vern decorated. more

Benjy's is a fantastic restaurant and worth every penny. The dining experience is fantastic, and the waitstaff is excellent. My favorite part of our experience is being able to wait to be seated in a very hip lounge/bar, which is upstairs. I highly recommend going if you havent been. You will not regret it. I have been in love with this place for several years. Watch the post-""Protestant Church"" West U. crowd enjoy wonderful dishes in a squeaky clean environment. However, with the demise of other brunch favorites, this place has become too crowded for my taste. more
