The naan is great and the Chicken 65 is as good as it is red. I like the unconventional service setup. The food is spicy but it is so worth the burn! more

Definitely try the Chana Masala! 5/14/2012

We went with a group so we got quite a few things to share including Chicken Boti; Chicken 65; Butter Chicken; Chana Masala; Mutton Masala; Mutton Biryani; and another dish with some potato dumpling things. The sauces were amazing! The mutton masala was tender and the sauce was my favorite, but the chana masala was my favorite dish of the night. I would suggest ordering the raita if you’re going to get the Chicken 65. My favorite version of Chicken 65 is the non-fried version at Bhojanic, but this is my favorite fried/authentic version. The servings are not huge – they are individual sized servings – but still large enough to share with others if you plan for 1 entrée per person. The prices were extremely reasonable. It's not fancy or pretentious. A few other reviews I’ve read were upset with the Styrofoam plates, etc. but I couldn’t care less about what the food was served on as long as it was good – and I thought it was. You bus your own table, so it makes clean up easier. For first timers it can be a little intimidating if you don’t have someone to tell you the process. When you go, grab a menu off the front counter and get in line (it might be a good idea to have one member of your party grab a table if you’re in line on a busy night). The cashier is trying to get through the line as quickly as possible and doesn’t offer suggestions or upsells. You do need to order saffron rice and/or naan separately if you want either. Drinks are in a can so suck it up if you want a refill and buy another. There are pitchers and Styrofoam cups available if you want water for the table – again, it’s serve yourself for the water. Once you’ve placed your order and you’ve paid, you can wait at your table for them to call your name. As for the one reviewer who said that you get funny looks if you’re not Indian, well, I didn’t notice any funny looks from the other patrons, but who cares about looks from other people – just enjoy your dinner. more

Tasty Strange Goodness 1/11/2012

My wife's old boss who was of Indian decent and raised in London got me hooked on Zyka. He had gotten married and at his reception he had a lavish table with lobster, filet, and wonderful cheeses but there was a little table to the side with Indian food for his out of town relatives. I placed a little Chicken 65 on my plate. I then proceeded to eat 2 additional plates of the 65, Masala, and Naan. Since that day, when I am close to Decatur and sometimes just when I have to have it I go get the best Indian in Atlanta. I have over the past 5 years tried other Indian restaurants but they never compare. The atmosphere is a bit strange because you order at the counter, spend realistically $20-30 per person, eat with styrofoam plates, eat with plastic silverware, the service is not fast, and you would think this would somehow make it bad but it doesn't it adds to the experience. A few years ago you had to get your water out of a water fountain. That's crazy and I was still hooked. The Aloo Gobi, Chicken 65, Tiki Masala, and Naan are outrageous. I haven't had a bad dish but if I found that one I just wouldn't order it again. If your reading this and trying to decide whether to go or not, decide if you like chain type restaurants with everything the same or if you like great food and a little adventure. more

Avoid ! 5/7/2011

Just spent $17 on take-out from Zyka. Paid $6.39 for chicken kebabs... they gave us four - yes four kebabs no bigger than my little finger and completely dry... we also ordered the Aachar gosht - received a tiny styrofoam cup with nothing but sauce and bones.... where's the meat Zyka ?? On top of this the gosht was horrible - just gratitous heat - no flavor.... just avoid this place! Portions and quality are awful ! more

tiny tiny portions not worth it ultra spicy 10/12/2010

Not impressed at all. Being new to Zyka was fine when I ordered a couple of appetizer dishes but going a second time to try some different dishes I was really disappointed and embarrassed for my parents to eat from Zykas. I would not recommed Zyka's being 1) portions are ridicoulosly tiny for the price! 2) They will always make the food very spicy even on request to make food somewhat mild! I have been to many many indian restuarants in a few countries and Zyka is overhyped. Dont waste your money. Service is not great, its just ok, plus we dont get real plates or cups! more

Go for the food 7/6/2009

I had the Chicken 65, Goat Curry, Naan, and Masala Chai. Everything was wonderful and the Naan was the best I've ever had. I thought the orders were plentiful. The Naan was pillowy, fresh, and buttery. This is not a typical restaurant, so don't expect service. You order at the counter and eat your food off of styrofoam plates, but who cares when you just want high quality food and zero pretention. I can't wait to try their butter chicken and saag paneer next time. Pros: Pillowy Naan, Excellent food more

Tasty! 1/11/2009

Delicious, inexpensive and fast. If you are looking for ambiance, go somewhere else. If you want great Indian food and a good value *and* you don't mind ordering at a counter, this is the place for you. \r \r Can't wait to go back! more

Quantity of Food is a Major Issue / Food is great tasting 9/20/2008

The food here is great, no doubt, but the QUANTITY OF FOOD is of major question. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and ONLY received 3-4 small pieces of chicken which costs $6.99!! Give me a break. I'm sure other people have felt this way. More people NEED to complain and bring up this problem. We love going there, but the amount of food prevents us being frequent customers. My wife and I ordered two orders of chicken tikka masal and two naans for total of ~$18. I warned the cashier to put more chicken based on previous order, but the problem still occured. We felt like we paid $18 for two pieces of naan, gravy, and some side onions/peppers!! Pros: Great taste Cons: VERY LITTLE AMOUNT! more

Great food, Avoid on Indian Holidays, Not for people who want fake Indian food. 6/5/2008

Great restaurant, all those people who have posted poor reviews here don't understand indian cuisine, or the styling of this restaurant. One person stated that this restaurant was ""styrofoam city"" the purpose of the styrofoam its to create ease to the customers, while keeping traffic in the restaurant down. Plates are easily thrown away. Another reviewer stated that the food is very oily. That person clearly does not know that this restaurant specializes in food in the style of Hyderabad, normally hyderabadi food is oily, but this is half of the pleasure, please do not let the people who wrote negative reviews deter you from going to this GREAT indian restaurant. You Can't go there and not have the Chicken 65. IT IS A MUST, WITH NAAN. more

A hidden gem 5/12/2008

The is the first place I tasted Indian food, and I've been coming back ever since. Nestled next to a Montessori school and newly renovated with bright colors and warm lights, it is a great place for an adventurous first date. You go to the counter where the no bs cashier takes your order, then grab water from the fountain in the front. I usually start out with an order of rice and butter naan. (You have to order these separate from the entrees.) I recommend the chana masala, the saag paneer, and the chicken 65. End with some pistachio kulfi (ice cream) for dessert. (They used to serve the kulfi in little ceramic flower pots, but they've been discontinued unfortunately.) EVERYTHING is more than reasonably priced. The food is spicy and flavorful, comes out quick, and great for anyone with a worldly taste on a tight budget. more

Staff is nice and the food is fantastic 3/26/2008

The food is fantastic. I go there at least once a month and up to once or twice a week, and I bring guests from out of town as well as family. The preparation of the dishes is incredibly consistent so that I can count on having my favorites served the same way every time. Excellent Tandoori Chicken, excellent Chicken 65, excellent Chana Masala, excellent bread (naan and paratha) and rice dishes, and excellent Kulfi deserts (especially the Chickoo). Beyond all this, the staff will recognize you after you eat a few meals there and remember your likes and dislikes, and make special suggestions.\r \r Bottom line: this place is extremely popular and is always busy. It looks like a school cafeteria (although it recently has been updated with some nice paintings and touches of decor) and it only has counter service, so don't be surprised that it doesn't look like a typical 4-star restaurant or that the staff at the counter sometimes needs to take your order and move on. Even given all this, you'll have a great meal and a great time. more

Food Not So Good 12/26/2006

I have enjoyed many outstanding meals at Zyka over the last 8 years. I have introduced many of my friends to this restaurant. I have eaten there so many times I order without using the menu.\r \r Unfortunately, I have experienced two episodes of very bad food there in the last 3 months. This site will not let me explain exactly what I am referring to. Their operation needs some review.\r \r I can forgive this once, but nice twice. I will not be eating there again. Please beware. Pros: Good taste Cons: Bad after effects more

The Best Indian and Most Affordable Indian Spot 11/14/2006

This restaurant was GREAT!!! The first time I went was on Saturday and then I went back on Sunday!!! You must must order the Chicken 65 and the chana Masala. You will be able to have app, meal, and naan all for 13-15 bucks. That is FAb in comparison to 15 alone for meal at most indian spots. Along with your order comes a bowl of onions, hot peppers and a slice of lime. Now you say..what da heck do i do with that..i tell you...squeeze the lim juice over the onions and peppers..it is really good..eat it alone or put on top of you meal. I would reccommend this spot a 1,000 times over. Pros: cheap, cheap and very good!!!! Cons: NOTHING more

Best Indian food I've found in Atlanta! 9/30/2006

One of my Indian friends told me about this place so I checked it out. Seems they have done a lot of remodeling, and it is looking nice. The food is awesome, best indian food I've found in ATL. You do get the food in styraphom, but its still tasty as heck! Most people just carry out it seems. I recommend the buttery chicken....and try the indian ice cream too! more

User review by sarahj1427 1/23/2006

When I first entered the ""restaurant"" I was quite suprised. As all the other reviews have stated, you order your food at the counter and find a table (which you more than likely have to clear off). Thirsty? Get a plastic cup and head over to the water fountain. All in all, this is the place to go if you want quick Indian food, definitely not on a date or when wanting to impress someone. I recommend the Chicken 65 and Chicken Tikka. more

Owned by curry nazis, but the food's so good! 9/29/2005

I go to Zyka for lunch. The staff is abrupt and deadpan, but they know they aren't there to entertain. You order at a walk-up counter and then pick a free table where you sit in plastic chairs. The kitchen is in back, and all food is passed out through a window to the front walk-up counter. When your food's up, they yell your name (or something that rhymes with your name) and you walk up and get it. They have seasoning down to an art... the food tastes great. However, everything is indeed super oily and the portions are small. But it tastes so good that you can't stop eating it! You bus your own tables and dump the trays into waiting garbage cans. If you want water, there's a water fountain. Bottom line: good food and they know it, everything else (service, ambiance) is the bare minimum. Pros: Food Cons: Ambience, Service more

Good food 6/3/2005

The food is great, service can be slow on Fri/Sat/Sun, but on other days it's quick. Ample parking. This place is basically a fast food joint with rather good food. Great for a large group. WRONG place for a business dinner or a date. more

Food is amazing 2/9/2003

The food at Zyka is amazing. The service is fast and friendly. The naan that is served at Zyka is fresh out of the oven and tastes like a piece of heaven. The prices arent too bad either. Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Ample Parking more
