Z's Oyster Bar & Steak House

I ate here for the first time last night and I was blown away. I have lived in different cities in the Midwest, and I have NEVER found a restaurant that was able to deliver BOTH seafood and steak to perfection- until now. My business partner had the steak, and I went with the fish of the day recommendation from the server. They were both mouth watering! The server told me they fly the fish in fresh every day, which I have heard before from other places but never believed until now. This has become my new favorite restaurant in Louisville! I will not be going downtown to the ""other"" steakhouses now that I found this gem on the east side! more

I was totally disappointed with our visit. 1. we arrived early, and went to the Bar, no problem; however, when the hostess came for us for our table 2. The table was not even ready for us, all she had to do was look at it, that took five minutes for it to be cleared and re-set, while we stood there, no offer for a drink or anything, we just stood there!. 3. It took 10 min till we saw our server. 4. Lobster tail was on the daily menu, but when our server took our order he told us there was none, you should have removed it from the menu, or the person who seated us should have told us when they gave us the menu. 5. I ordered a wine flight, it was delivered to the wrong table. 6. It took 30 min for our appetizer, the manager on duty was aware and apologized and eventually took it off our menu, but our total visit was soured by now. The ahi tuna makes your eyes water. We've eaten here three times this year and have had outstanding service, perfectly prepared food and have never smelled smoke. I don't eat red meat, can't comment, but the seafood is GREAT. Like the wine 'flights"" too. Pros: Divine food, Great service more

My wife and I started with 6 of the several varieties of oysters, and the calamari. The oysters were bright, and delicious. The calimari pieces twice the size we've seen and tender. I had a filet, and my wife a piece of the tuna flown in fresh from Hawaii. The filet was excellent (possibly not quite as good as Ruth Chris), but the tuna was mag-freaking-nificent. It was served rare. It had a nice sear on the outside, and the bulk was a deep red color. I am not exagerating when I say that it would melt in your mouth. I only wish I could remember what it was called. (some kind of tuna sacred to the Hawaiin people, and I understand why). The side dishes, a spinach casserole and the cheese covered hash browns were on a par with the entrees. Overall, an outstanding dining experience. I have ate at all the steak houses in Louisville and this is by far the best. When you compare price it is no contest Z's price & quality wins out. They bill the filet as the best in town and they are right! Lamb is excellent as well. I would also say that this is the best seafood restaurant in Louisville.
