Better than the big pet stores 2/24/2011

I went in there with my daughter and my little dog. The owner lisa is very friendly and helpful. Very welcoming and inviting environment, like a business should be run. Even though I did not purchase something, she gave my daughter some valentines candy and my dog a bag of treats. Im a customer for life. more

Pros and cons 1/15/2009

this is a pet store that I have personaly gone to for many years and I trust and admire their staff. They could keep it a little cleaner, but what can you expect with a lot of animals in a small area. There reptile selection has always been great and there has always been someone knowlegable there. some of the things their are quite pricy, but for the most part their prices are great. Pros: Staff Cons: cleanliness is so so more

To whom it may concern. Previous Employee. 6/17/2008

I am sorry for what you are complaining about, and I certainly never left the pet cages dirty. I hope you understand that dogs do use the restroom in those cages. It is also quite a small store, I don't really understand where you expect the smell to go. The prices are very reasonable for almost everything except small items in which larger stores may sell much more of. Not every body can know every thing there is to know, so please do not expect a super human to work at every pet store, especially a mom and pop store. As far as diseases and medical problems, they may occur with any pet. Whether it be from The Zoo or Pets mart. As far as puppy mills, I don't really have anything to say on that because I don't believe the person that posted the comment. I have done research and have found little about it. Most people state that once they received their dog they ""believe it came from a puppy mill"" which doesn't exactly make it fact. Besides, who else would you get your pets from? I trust the certified breeders far more than non certified breeders. But that's just me. I love The Zoo Pet Store and the employees and family. Bye. Pros: Family run, Very nice staff Cons: People that assume dirty deeds on this web site. more

Don't Buy From The Zoo..you are buying from Puppy Mills...Stay Away from Mission Viejo Mall's Pet Store, too! 4/4/2008

The Zoo Pet Store in Mission Viejo, CA buys its puppies from Lambriar. Lambriar is a Pet Broker or middleman that buy puppy mill pups and mom and pop homes who bred to make extra cash. Lambriar trucks pups each week on their routes to PET STORES throughout the US. Lambriar prints up Pedigree Certificates by Lambriar which is meaningless. The owner is duping you when she says these are high quality dogs. They are not. Most ido not have AKC registration...because it is too cost.y. The pups have CKC registrations which is much cheaper. Be prepared for high vet bills. Sometimes, families don't have pups with problems...but expect deromodex, hip displacia, heart problems, pink eye, cancers, kidney failure....and tears! Rescue a dog or buy a dog directly from a reputable breeder where you see the parents and the breeder requires a spay/neuter contract to avoid people breeding for fun or cash. Breeding should be done for the betterment of the breed. Oprah had a show on puppy mill with Lisa Ling from the View. It was heartbreaking and no one had a dry eye. Oh forgot to tell you that the owner of the Zoo thinks that the Mission Viejo Mall's Pet Store has the sickest animals. Where do they get their dogs. From Lambriar of course. Pros: Owner bathes and feeds dogs. The dog cages are clean. Cons: Puppy Mill Puppies, Owner either Misleads consumer or is a complete idiot. more

Overpriced and Unexperienced Staff 1/9/2008

I first called the Zoo to see if they had any Parrotlets available. The boy who answered the phone told me that they had one green. I asked him if it was a male or female. He put me on hold for a minute and then told me that the bird was too young and that the breeder had not told them if it was a girl or boy. I asked him if it had any blue on it...he said yes (That means its a male). I then asked him how much the bird was and he said it would be $299!!!! Greens generally sell for about $150! The zoo was charging the price of a Blue or Yellow! I was hoping that the young man was mistaken so I decided to go to the store. The first thing I noticed was that the store reaked!!! They sell puppies there and you can tell that they do not clean the cages very often. The puppies also looked pretty sick. Anyway, I was able to see the parrotlet and it was a green male. However, it was not hand-tamed! If they were going to sell it for that price I would have expected a tamed and trained bird! I did not end up buying the bird but found one at $150 elsewhere. Pros: Clean Floors Cons: Unclean Animal Cages (Smells!), Overpriced Animals, Uninformed Staff. more
