NOT a good Brazilian Restaurant 5/6/2008

All meats are over seasoned, had to drink too much water during and after the meal (even the next day). Salad bar was smaller then expected (compared to Sal Carveo or Fogo de Chao). Service and ambiance was great though! I have no problem spending $$$$ when I have enjoyed the meal, but my husband and myself will never go back to Zed 451 ever again. Did I mention my husband is Brazilian! Pros: Great atmosphere & service Cons: Food is below average more

Used to be the spot, but not anymore!!!!!!!!! 2/6/2008

If you went to Sal and Carvao and now go to Zed451 you will know what i am talking about. Sal and carvao used to honestly be one of the best brazilian steakhouse in chicago and i have been to all in chicago. In short Zed451 lacks substance, service, food, selection and anything else you can think of. Zed451 really has a long way to go and really need to step it up!!!!!!!! more

Promise less and deliver more. 11/18/2007

When this restaurant first opened as Sal & Carvao in Downers Grove, we felt the food was superior and the service was excellent, but it slowly declined soon thereafter, and it was not long before the restaurant closed. We were delighted to give this new restaurant which opened in it's place with basically the same concept a chance. We were allured under the presumption of this being an excellent "steakhouse", but unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with the selection of meat. My idea of a fine steadkhouse means "prime" cuts of meat, but instead we were served several varieties of "rump" and "bottom" cuts of beef and lamb, chicken drumb sticks and lower cuts of sausage. When we asked for better cuts of meat they told us, they would come back, but they only came back to the table with more bottom cuts. The restaurant is overpriced for the quality of food they deliver. I think they should promise less and deliver more. Pros: The ambiance was pleasant and the service was good Cons: They mostly offered lower cuts of meat more

The best restaurant i've been to 1/16/2006

I discovered this restaurant while driving with a brazilian who, upon seeing the word "churrascaria", immediately had me pull over so we could eat there. What I found was the best food i have ever eaten in my life. Now i am in Brazil and I can say that the food at this restaurant is perfectly matched to what you will really find in Brazil. I loved the atmosphere, the meat is honestly the best I've had in my life (i still don't know how Brazilians do it), and the service was friendly and... Brazilian! I was a bit surprised at the bill, being over $100 for just two people, but I have to say that it was 100% worth it. If you want the best food and the best atmosphere and service, go to this place (and try the desserts!). Pros: good service, amazing food, friendly people Cons: quite expensive more

Editorial
  • In Short
Carnivores may remember this Brazilian churrascaria as Sal & Carvao, but this revamped, slightly reconcepted restaurant is more global in scope. Flagstone and russet-toned walls, gleaming, warm wood and inset tile floors and tables with curved, slatted wood chairs exude upscale, if masculine, charm. After visiting the table with housemade soups, salads and charcuterie, diners ready to indulge position a stone to indulge in an endless array of skewered, tableside-carved protein.
